“If it's wrong on the property, it's wrong on the invoice. We fix it before we leave.”
About the owner
Adrian started Southern Landscaping in 2005 — one truck out of Madison, mostly mowing routes through Madison and west Huntsville. The work grew into beds, then irrigation, then pavers and retaining walls when neighbors kept asking for the next thing.
The approach hasn't changed in two decades: the same crew shows up, the same owner answers the phone, the price you got is the price on the invoice. Bermuda in summer, fescue overseed in fall, pine straw mulch in spring, crape myrtle pruned the way crape myrtle is supposed to be pruned.
“You don't keep customers in the same valley for twenty years by cutting corners. You keep them by showing up the day you said you would.”
What we do — Madison, AL
Most folks call us for one thing and end up keeping us for the rest. Lawn, beds, irrigation, hardscape — same crew, same standards.
Weekly or biweekly mow, edge, blow. Bermuda + zoysia in summer, fescue overseed in fall. Striping if you want it.
Spring cleanup, weed pull, fresh pine straw or hardwood bark. Crape myrtle and dogwood beds done right.
New systems sized for your yard, head replacements, controller programs that match Tennessee Valley summers.
Patios, walkways, segmental block walls. Real base prep, real drainage. We pour concrete too.
Crape myrtle done correctly (no "crape murder"), magnolia clean-ups, hedge shaping, dogwood thinning.
Drainage corrections, French drains, regrading for water that sits in the wrong place after a Valley storm.
North Alabama yard calendar
Tennessee Valley yards run on their own schedule. This is roughly what we're doing month by month for our maintenance customers in Madison, Huntsville, Athens, Decatur, and Harvest.
Dormant clean-up
Bermuda is dormant — we tidy beds, prune deciduous trees, and tune up irrigation controllers before spring.
Crape myrtle pruning
Late-February is the right window to prune crape myrtle the right way — no topping, no “crape murder.” Dormant oil on shrubs.
Pre-emergent + first mow
Pre-emergent goes down before forsythia blooms drop. Bermuda starts greening late-month — first edge & light mow.
Pine straw + bed refresh
Spring cleanup, fresh pine straw or hardwood bark, beds reshaped. Dogwoods and azaleas hitting peak — beds get noticed.
Mowing route in full swing
Weekly mow + edge + blow. Bermuda growing fast. Drip-line check on new plantings before summer kicks in.
Irrigation peak
Heat + humidity — irrigation runs nightly. Controller tuned to morning cycles. Hedge shaping on knockouts and boxwood.
Fertility + thunderstorm cleanup
Mid-summer Bermuda fertilization. Storm cleanup runs after Tennessee Valley pop-up storms — branches off the lawn fast.
Hold the line
Hottest stretch of the year. We back off on aggressive cuts, raise the deck, and keep the irrigation tight on Bermuda + zoysia.
Fescue overseed window opens
Mid-September is the start of fescue overseed for shaded yards. Aerate first, then seed, then keep it moist for two weeks.
Aeration + leaf cleanup begins
Core aeration on Bermuda lawns going dormant. Oak and dogwood leaves start dropping — first cleanups go on the route.
Heavy leaf cleanup
Peak leaf-fall in the Tennessee Valley. Weekly clean-ups, gutter checks if you ask, last mow on warm-season grass.
Hardscape season
Cooler months are when paver patios, retaining walls, and French drains go in. Less mud, faster cure, easier scheduling.
None of this runs on a stopwatch. Weather in the Valley moves the calendar by a week or two every year — we adjust to what the yard is doing, not the other way around.
How we work
Tell us the address and what's on your mind. Five minutes is plenty.
We walk the yard, ask about drainage, sun, and what you've tried already. Free, no pitch.
A clear number, broken out line by line. No surprise charges later.
We pick a window with you. Most jobs land within two weeks.
We don't pack up until you're standing in it and happy.
That’s it. No portals, no logins — a phone call or an email is all it takes.
Where we work
We're based on Brass Oak in Madison and we run a tight loop — Madison, west Huntsville, Athens, Decatur, and Harvest. Most jobs are inside that triangle.
Hampton Cove, Owens Cross Roads, and Monrovia we take on request when the schedule allows. If you're past the bridge into Marshall County or out near Scottsboro, we'll be honest about whether it's the right call.
Sketch map — not to scale. We'll tell you up front if you're past the route.
Reviews — Madison & Huntsville
Adrian's crew rebuilt our retaining wall after the spring storms got under it. Three years on, it hasn't moved an inch and the front bed has never looked better.
We had three quotes for the irrigation install. His was the only one that asked about our slope before naming a number. Told us what we needed, not what was easiest to sell.
Hired Southern Landscaping for weekly maintenance and a paver patio. Same crew shows up. Yard hasn't looked this consistent in ten years on this street.
We bought a place in Athens with a yard nobody had touched in two years. Adrian gave us a phased plan instead of trying to bill it all at once. Honest from the start.
Crape myrtles got pruned right for the first time since we moved in. Bloomed harder than they have in years. They know what they're doing with Southern trees.
